JoAnn Schmitz, Esq.

JoAnn Schmitz founded her first law firm, Schmitz Law Firm, in 2002. In 2012, Paul Lewis joined her to form Schmitz Lewis, PC, a regional law firm focused on corporate clients. In 2014, the law firm expanded again and invited Michael Kuhn and Andrew Swan to join as shareholders forming Schmitz | Lewis | Kuhn | Swan PC. Before beginning the practice of law, JoAnn was employed for 18 years with two high-tech Fortune 100 companies in numerous roles encompassing product management, marketing, operations, executive speech writing, manufacturing, purchasing, and human resources for leading edge technology products. During her last year of law school, JoAnn worked on the Compaq/HP merger analyzing their respective computer storage business units. 

JoAnn has represented numerous companies from single person start-ups to multi-million dollar privately-held entities. Her present practice emphasizes general counsel, contracts, commercial and IP litigation, capitalization, business formation and owner agreements, mergers and acquisitions, and IP protection and licensing – particularly software licensing. JoAnn knows that it is critical for the economic vitality of Colorado Springs to create a business-friendly environment and currently volunteers her time as a Small Business Development Center Advisory Board Member and Consultant.

Heather McBroom

My professional experience has included 20 years in the insurance industry; 15 years in the legal industry; and over 20 years of business management in various industries, including construction management; as well as 15 years of bookkeeping and payroll experience.  I specialize in Commercial Insurance, representing over 30 of todays top rated insurance carriers.  I protect your most important investment by analyzing and protecting your risks appropriate while finding affordable solutions.

My educational background includes computer operations, business management, and a Bachelors Degree in Social Work at CSU-Pueblo. A history in the social work industry drives my passion for helping others thrive, both professionally and personally. My contributions to our local populace shows through my commitment to community volunteerism and making sure that my clients receive exemplary service, and doing whatever it takes to help them achieve success. My business is your business!

I am blessed with a supportive and loving husband and children who keep me busy with all their extracurricular activities.  I am also dedicated to being an active and involved parent, and love to volunteer regularly at their schools.

Thea Chase

Thea Chase is a consultant, mentor and board member for high growth companies and communities and is a highly regarded business incubation professionals in the USA. Over the past twenty-five years Ms. Chase has started and run regional eco-system building programs, Accelerators, University Entrepreneurship Centers, Co-working spaces, Incubators, Small Business Development Centers and University Entrepreneurship curriculum and programming.

Notably, Ms. Chase recently directed the Southwest Innovation Corridor (SWIC), moving the 8-county rural southwest region of Colorado towards a healthy balanced economy with a greater emphasis on innovation-based businesses. For the prior 3 years, Ms. Chase was the Director of the Telluride Venture Accelerator (TVA), a seed Accelerator where Ms. Chase organized curriculum, programming, 120+ world-class mentor group and significant investor community. Prior to her work with the Telluride Foundation, Thea was the founding Director at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, CA’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and award winning Small Business Development Center for Innovation from 2010-13; led the development of the Entrepreneurship concentration at Colorado Mesa University 2006-10; and was the Executive Director of the Business Incubator Center in Grand Junction, CO from 1993-2006, a 5-time National Business Incubation Association (inBIA) award winning program.

Thea has gained extensive experience working with communities and regions to build on their unique qualities to create sustainable economies, including internationally. Thea’s passion is working with entrepreneurs (1000+) and building communities interested in engaging entrepreneurs through developing supportive eco-systems. Thea believes in collaboration and efficient use of resources to build the greatest impact and has worked extensively with diverse groups of stakeholders to drive successful projects. Her international work includes projects in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Thailand and St. Lucia.

Thea is the proud mother of two millennials and serves as Town Trustee in Palisade, CO and on several non-profit and startup Boards.

 

Caleb David

Creating space for people to be seen, heard and known makes Caleb David come alive. His love for the Front Range community, partnership, and connecting with people has helped Caleb to become one of the leading brokers in the Colorado Springs market. He provides reliable expertise in office, medical, retail, industrial and land markets. Caleb had the privilege of serving as the 2019 President of the Southern Colorado Commercial Brokers (SCCB) Association, and is currently part of the Colorado Springs Small Business Advancement team, developed in partnership with the Colorado Springs Chamber and EDC.

With almost 20 years in the non-profit sector, Caleb’s desire is to use his platform and resources to bring awareness to social justice issues and to vulnerable people on the margins. He is the Founder and President of The Table Initiative, a non-profit organization dedicated to building relationships between global communities. He was also the recipient of the Golden Rule Young People’s Goodwill Ambassadorship Award presented by Dr. Clyde Rivers and Ambassador Mussie Hailu in 2014 for his work and commitment to the people of Ethiopia.
